Brynithel notch up another win

Brynithel delivered another win but made things difficult for themselves.  The weather at Rhymney was set fair with a breeze blowing from the south.  Rhymney chose to play with the wind first half and were first to make the scoresheet, scoring in the corner after only 2min.  5-0 Rhymney.  5minutes later Brynithel moved the ball among the backs and Gavin Hayes hit the gap, was tackled but offloaded to Lewis Bates who rounded the full back to score.  The try was coverted by Lewis Hulme. Rhymney regained the lead after 20min with a well taken penalty. Rhymney 8:7 Brynithel.  5minutes before half time Lewis Bates showed what a good player he is.  He picked up the ball on the half way, broke the tackle, and had three more people to beat, firstly feinted to go left, but moved off his left foot leaving the three players in no mans land and out-sprinted the defenders to score a very memorable try.  Again convered by Lewis Hulme. Rhymney 8:14.  It was in the last minute of the half when Brynithel struck again, but this time it was Rhys James who scored.  Rhys played his 1st game for Brynithel at outside half, and had an indecisive first half but showed what he could do, picked a nice angle, broke a tackle to score from about 20 meters out. Nicely done.  This gave Brynithel a 21-8 half time lead scoring three very nice tries.

The second half performance was a bit disjointed, the wind seem to work against Brynithel than with them; they should have got the bonus point try, but it eluded them.  It was Rhymney who responded best, kicking a penalty on 48min and following a mix up in midfield the Rhymney centre picked up the ball and racing the full length of the pitch to score under the posts on 64min. This made the score Rhymney 18:21 Brynithel, and led to a very nervy conclusion.  Brynithel held on though; Gavin Hayes kicked a penalty with 3 mins to go, and Brynithel held on to win.  The forwards played very well throughout, supplying clean ball for the Brynithel backs.  The final score Rhymney RFC 18:24 Brynithel RFC
